How to Replace and Repair a MacBook Screen

Tools You Will Need

• Pentalobe screwdrivers (5-point star)
• Phillips screwdriver
• Spudger / plastic pry tool
• Suction cup handle
• Tweezers
• Anti-static wrist strap (recommended)
• Replacement screen assembly compatible with your MacBook model

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Power off and prepare

   Shut down your MacBook completely, disconnect the charger, and remove any external devices. Place it on a clean, flat, non-static surface.
2. Remove the bottom case screws

   Use the appropriate pentalobe screwdriver to remove all screws on the bottom cover. Keep screws organized to avoid loss or misplacement.
3. Disconnect the battery (critical safety step)

   Carefully pry open the bottom case. Locate the battery connector on the logic board and gently disconnect it to prevent short circuits during repair.
4. Remove screen bezel and screws

   Open the laptop slightly. Use a spudger to carefully loosen the front bezel around the screen. Remove the screws holding the screen assembly to the hinge brackets.
5. Disconnect display cables

   Gently lift the screen assembly to access the rear connectors. Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the display cable, camera cable, and any antenna cables. Do not pull or tear the cables.
6. Remove the old screen

   Once all cables are detached, fully remove the original damaged screen assembly.
7. Install the new screen

   Align the new screen with the hinge brackets. Reconnect all display, camera, and antenna cables in their original positions. Secure the screen with the mounting screws.
8. Reconnect the battery and test

   Reconnect the battery connector. Before closing the bottom case, power on the MacBook to test the new screen: check for display, brightness, touch function (if applicable), and no flickering or dead spots.
9. Reassemble the laptop

   If the screen works properly, reinstall the bottom case and tighten all screws. Confirm all parts are firmly secured.

• Do not use metal tools to pry cables, as this may damage connectors.
